The Montessori International School of Vietnam (MIS) takes great pride in providing care and education to children in their formative years. Parents expect different things from their child’s first schooling experience. Some parents come to me and say that they would like their child just to be happy. Others expect their child to be academically advanced when leaving our programme.

At MIS, happy experiences and academics are not mutually exclusive. They are components of our curriculum and programme, but they are neither the end nor the beginning of the child’s education. We strive to bring out the whole and best human being in each child. This is achieved from following the Montessori method, which sees our endless effort and improvement to meet each child’s growing needs and interests. At all ages, children are allowed to naturally follow their own path, develop their own interest and opinion. They are guided to realize their own strengths and weaknesses and learn how to improve themselves. In a fast changing world where information and knowledge can be obtained through different channels, where our children will grow up with wider usage of Artificial Intelligence, academic abilities alone are not enough to help them succeed. At MIS, children learn how to study, establish a love of learning and the ability to think outside the box, and develop their empathy and emotional intelligence. These are important attributes and skills that will enable them in the future to embrace challenges, be proactive to create and make necessary changes that bring betterment and happiness to themselves and others throughout their lives.

For our infants and toddlers, we incorporate the globally recognised Resources for Infant Educarers® (RIE®) approach through an environment that is physically safe, cognitively challenging and emotionally nurturing. Care and relationship is part of the curriculum. At 3-6yrs, our children enjoy and benefit from the Montessori education, which is offered as a natural way to learn and absorb the world around them.

I take great pleasure and pride in founding the first Montessori school in Vietnam. MIS has been providing authentic Montessori education since its establishment in 2007, one hundred years after the inception of the first Montessori class in Rome in 1907. I am also proud that the school is part of the American Montessori Society (AMS). The school is currently at Step 6 on AMS’ Pathway of Continuous School Improvement framework. The framework aims to ‘support member schools in their ongoing commitment to providing and sustaining quality Montessori programs.’

Following the worldwide significant growth, Montessori education in Vietnam has seen a phenomenal surge in recent years. I am also proud to have helped train and coach many Head Teachers and Teaching Assistants (via the School and in other schools in HCMC).

Montessori inspired schools are now found outside of the major metropolitan areas in the country. From its pioneer role, MIS has contributed, and will continue to do so, to the development of Montessori education in Vietnam.

I invite all families who are interested in seeing an authentic Montessori school to visit us and spend some time in our school to get to know our community. I am happy to sit down with you and answer any questions that you may have. I am excited to welcome your child upon their first visit. When they are younger than 18 months, we offer home visits to know your child better before their first day of school. In the meantime, I wish each and every one of you all the very best.
